Importance of Physical Activity

  • Children under 5 should not be inactive for long periods, except when they’re asleep.
  • Watching TV, travelling by car, bus or train, or being strapped into a place for long periods is not good for a child’s health and development.
  • There’s growing evidence that such behavior can increase their risk of poor health.

General Tips

  • At least 60mins of Physical activity is recommended for Children.
  • Examples of energetic activities suitable for most children who can walk on their own include:
    • active play (such as hide and seek)
    • running around
    • jumping on a trampoline
    • dancing
    • aerobics
    • climbing
    • skipping rope
    • gymnastics
  • Reduce non-active time (TV, mobile, computer/laptop) and solitary play (playing alone).
  • Encourage safe walking or Bicycling.
  • Make Physical Activity part of the family’s routine.
  • Ensure that activity is age appropriate and provide protective equipment such as helmets, wrist pads, knee pads.
