Importance of Physical Activity
- Children under 5 should not be inactive for long periods, except when they’re asleep.
- Watching TV, travelling by car, bus or train, or being strapped into a place for long periods is not good for a child’s health and development.
- There’s growing evidence that such behavior can increase their risk of poor health.
General Tips
- At least 60mins of Physical activity is recommended for Children.
- Examples of energetic activities suitable for most children who can walk on their own include:
- active play (such as hide and seek)
- running around
- jumping on a trampoline
- dancing
- aerobics
- climbing
- skipping rope
- gymnastics
- Reduce non-active time (TV, mobile, computer/laptop) and solitary play (playing alone).
- Encourage safe walking or Bicycling.
- Make Physical Activity part of the family’s routine.
- Ensure that activity is age appropriate and provide protective equipment such as helmets, wrist pads, knee pads.
